COA Centre of Excellence

A competition proposal for a Centre of Excellence at Bangalore University, designed as a welcoming campus building focused on student experience and new forms of learning and discovery — housing an auditorium, laboratories, an exhibition hall, a restaurant, administration and residential quarters.
A central courtyard connects every function and encourages chance encounters across a split-level section. The scheme is grounded in environmental analysis: daylight studies set a 12-metre building width, wind studies suggested three separate blocks to promote cross-ventilation, and thermal comfort studies guided the placement of vegetation, bridges and building services to minimise solar heat gain. Public functions sit at ground level for accessibility, with private spaces and labs above, linked by visually engaging bridges.
